Chronic food shortage in Africa: Walking the talk with biotechnology

Prof. Miriam Kinyua of the department of Biotechnology at Moi University and former director of KARI - Njoro Center will make a presentation on Chronic food shortage in Africa: Walking the talk with biotechnology.

Prof Kinyua is the acting chair of the National Biosafety Committee (NBC) and also the Chairperson of the Plant Breeders’ Association of Kenya (PBAK). She has released over 10 wheat varieties for commercialisation and is a recipient of the Presidential award of Order of Grand Warrior (OGW-2007) for her immense contributions to Agricultural production through research.

With over 100 publications in the field of Agricultural research in her name, Prof Kinyua is also heavily engaged in capacity building efforts of young upcoming scientists and a mentor to many researchers.
Based on her wealth of experience and with the enactment of the Biosafety Act in Kenya, Prof Kinya will share her perspectives on how we could move fast from the current agricultural research activities on biotechnology towards the next level of commercialisation.
