Prof James Opiyo Ochanda, Director of the Centre for Biotechnology & Bioinformatics (CEBIB) will make a presentation on:

Review of Biotechnology Capacity Building Program in Kenya: The Experiences of the Centre for Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (CEBIB), University of Nairobi.

Professor Ochanda is the former Coordinator of Biosciences Eastern and Central Africa (BecA) and he has 23 years experience in biosciences research, focused in advanced biosciences as applied in enhancing postgraduate training and institutional capacity building in biochemistry, biotechnology and bioinformatics. He is enthusiastic to share views on how to improve capacity building and strengthen biotechnology programmes in higher institutions of learning in the region. He was recently appointed as a member of planning meetings on progress and prospects for the use of genetically modified mosquitoes to inhibit disease transmission. Prof Ochanda is a member of the Panel of Experts on Biotechnology and Biosafety for Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
